Cummins & Partners has announced the appointment of Sophie Lander as the role of managing director.

Lander joins the independent creative agency’s Sydney office after three years as the general manager of dentsu Sydney where she led BWM Isobar and DMB.

During her time there, she had also previously held the role of client services director and contributed to the significant growth of the agencies.

Lander said of her appointment: “I’m incredibly proud to be named managing director of the Sydney office and I have been given a blank sheet to go crazy, get growth and do great work.

"Both Michael and Sean (Cummins) have been integral in my decision to leave and my time with Rob Belgiovane, Paul Williams and Jamie Mackay has given me the best experience working with passionate founders and leaders," she added.

Cummins & Partners founder and CEO Sean Cummins said of the appointment: "I can’t believe how lucky we are to attract such wonderful talent and great leadership.

"Sophie has an amazing reputation for running FMCG accounts and also financial brand. That’s quite a spectrum and shows her diverse abilities.

"Of all the people I interviewed Sophie was in a completely different league and I can’t wait to work with her. We have a talented crew who will only benefit from Sophie’s leadership," he added.

Cummins & Partners Michael McConville

News of Lander's appointment comes after the announcement of Michael McConville as global CEO role, leading its offices in Sydney, Melbourne and New York.

The newly appointed CEO is returning home to Australia after almost nine years in the UK and will join the independent agency in August.

McConville spent almost five years as managing partner of adam&eveDDB and was previously at WCRS/Engine as client managing director and partner.

McConville said of the joining Cummins & Partners: “I was open to coming home but it had to be for the right thing. The right thing meant finding an agency with a global mindset, coupled with the ability to make brilliant local work.

“It meant seeing greatness in some of what an agency had done before, while seeing the ambition to go bigger and better than ever. Having an agency with experience is great but when you combine that experience with incredible potential… that’s what really excites me. From the first conversation onwards, what can I say, Sean and I knew it was right.

“Culture is very important to me, so I’m here to build on an agency that lives with strong values, so people can feel backed to do the best and most creative work of their lives. The agency has clearly been an amazing breeding ground of talent in the past, now we want to move the agency, it’s people and our work into its next big phase.” McConville added.
