Dan Krigstein has been appointed Chair of ThinkNewsBrands, the advocacy body for Australian news publishing media, effective 1 July 2025.

Krigstein steps into the role after serving on the ThinkNewsBrands board since February. He replaces Tory Maguire, Managing Director at Nine Publishing, who has chaired the board since January 2024 and will remain as a Director.

Krigstein currently leads The Growth Distillery and News Corp Australia’s Growth Intelligence Centre, where he advises on brand strategy and customer insights. His previous roles span Qantas, 20th Century Fox, and Paramount, where he built a reputation for integrating strategy, analytics, and innovation in commercial operations.

“The role of news media extends far beyond traditional advertising,” Krigstein said. “When publishers and brands collaborate, understanding the mindsets, moments, and motivations of Australian consumers, the outcomes are significant. I’m looking forward to working with the Board and executive team to help brands unlock growth and better understand the true value and influence of news media,”

Vanessa Lyons, CEO of ThinkNewsBrands, welcomed the appointment and acknowledged Maguire’s tenure, during which the organisation introduced simplified digital measurement across publishers and platforms.

“Dan’s leadership and commercial and consumer intelligence expertise make him the ideal person to help guide ThinkNewsBrands through its next phase of impact.” Lyons said. “I also want to thank Tory Macguire for her leadership and contributions during her tenure as Chair. We’re delighted that Tory will continue to bring her insight and experience to the Board in her ongoing role as a director,”

ThinkNewsBrands is backed by shareholders Nine, News Corp Australia, and Seven West Media’s West Australian Newspapers. The body focuses on accurate audience measurement, media advocacy, and supporting the value of professionally produced Australian journalism.
