Our annual listing of 25 media executives who made a difference this year and are shaping how 2018 will look.

Lisa Davies, Editor, The Sydney Morning Herald

Davies stepped into the editor role at The Sydney Morning Herald in February 2017 when the former editor-in-chief, Darren Goodsir, announced he would be leaving his role and Fairfax Media. “Not having an editor-in-chief was definitely something of a surprise and an initial challenge,” she told Mediaweek earlier this year.

Of all the print titles in Australia, The Sydney Morning Herald continues to have the highest cross-platform readership of 4.040 million, according to Roy Morgan data for 12 months to September 2017.

It was under Davies’ editorship that The SMH started hosting an annual Year In Review event. This year’s SMH Live: Year in Review, which was moderated by Davies, was sold out.
