Editors select their most significant covers from the past 12 months.

My two favourite covers this year are favourites for very different reasons. I’d been in discussions with Apple about potentially shooting a cover on an iPhone for a long time, so to see our July cover with Margaret Zhang, shot by Georges Antoni, come to fruition and receive worldwide press was very gratifying. Innovation is a huge part of the Elle brand and this was an important positioning moment for us.

My other favourite is the current December cover of pregnant Tessa James. I think for most people, this has been such an anxiety-filled and negative year, so to end it on this genuine message of optimism, hope and love defying the odds feels wonderful and necessary.
