Wednesday

Tutankhamun 9.30pm on SBS

This four-part period drama about the discovery of the Egyptian Pharaoh’s tomb in 1922 is still screening in the UK where it has enraged some fans with its historical inaccuracies. For a start, there’s archeologist Howard Carter (played by 30-year-old Max Irons, son of Jeremy) who was actually 47 when he cracked open the treasure. And a romance between him and 17-year-old Lady Evelyn (Amy Wren) is also problematic given it’s only rumoured to have happened and probably didn’t, given the real age gap. But hey, Lady Evelyn’s father is Carter’s benefactor Lord Carnarvon and he’s played by Sam Neill so that alone makes this miniseries worth watching.

Thursday

50th Annual CMA Awards 11am on CMC

For this historic celebration, some of country music’s biggest artists will be appearing on this live telecast from Nashville for America’s ABC network hosted (for the ninth time) by Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood. It's not to be confused with the 51st Academy of Country Music Awards which aired from Las Vegas for CBS last April, although both feature Dolly Parton. For the latter, Dolly got the Tex Ritter Award but tomorrow, she will get the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award.
