ABC News has appointed Clare Armstrong as chief digital political correspondent, joining from her current role as national political editor for News Corporation’s Daily Telegraph, Herald Sun, Adelaide Advertiser and Courier Mail.

Based in Canberra, Armstrong has held senior political reporting roles across News Corp’s titles, including as a federal political reporter for the Daily Telegraph and earlier as a reporter for the Townsville Bulletin. She replaces Jacob Greber, who has been appointed political editor of 7.30.

“I’m excited to take on this new role as the ABC’s chief digital political correspondent,” Armstrong said. “Every decision in Canberra has a ripple effect across the country and I’m looking forward to breaking stories and providing insight and analysis on the issues that matter most to Australians.”

Justin Stevens, ABC director of news, said: “Clare is a hugely talented and highly experienced political journalist and an acute analyst of national politics with a track record of breaking news. ABC audiences would already be familiar with Clare from her regular appearances on the Insiders couch. She is a terrific addition to the ABC’s strong Canberra Parliament House team.”

Armstrong will commence in the role later this year.
