Taco Bell Australia has appointed 72andSunny as their creative partner.

The partnership between the fast-food franchise and the agency follows a competitive pitch and begins immediately.

Taco Bell returned to the Australian market in 2017 and has since expanded to 27 restaurants. Its marketing function is run by its two franchise partners, Restaurant Brands Australia and Collins Foods.

Restaurant Brands Australia’s Ben Simmons, GM marketing and operations, said: "We were looking for a partner that could help Taco Bell disrupt the fast-food category in a youthful and cool way whilst also driving sales. 72andSunny have a real understanding of modern Australia and share our growth mindset."

David Timm, CMO Collins Foods commented: "72andSunny brought the right blend of category and global experience to how they think about strategy, creative and process that felt like a great fit for our business."

President of 72andSunny Sydney, Ross Berthinussen added: "Both Taco Bell and 72andSunny are built on the spirit of optimism. We’re looking forward to building a relationship that can lead to epic results through epic work."

Luke Martin, ECD at 72andSunny, said: "We love Taco Bell’s ambition to really embrace youth culture. It’s a brand that’s always shown up in innovative ways overseas, we’re looking forward to bringing that energy to Australia."

Taco Bell was founded in California in 1962, during the '80s and '90s there were two attempts to launch the franchise in Australia that failed.

The Mexican fast-food chain returned Down Under in 2017 with its first store in Annerly, Brisbane.

It has since expanded to multiple across New South Wales - including Blacktown, Haymarket and Ballina, Victoria - in Hawthorn and South Yarra, and Western Australia in Midland.

The Taco Bell Australia account win comes after 72andSunny won MyDeal and announced the appointment of Genevieve Hoey as creative consultant, along with expanding with four new hires, back in September.
