Rio Report: How Day 2 of the Olympics delivered for Seven

Seven News soars to 1.62m as In Rio Today and highlights pull 1.25m+

There was all sorts of predictions about the challenges that Seven would have pulling big primetime audiences for its Rio 2016 coverage given the timezone challenges. While there are few live events to cover during primetime, especially early in the evening, Seven has dominated the ratings in its first two days of Olympic coverage.

While the numbers are no doubt smaller than the channels would get for live medal events, Seven had no trouble pulling audiences well over 1m last night for its highlights and review programming.

The combined channel network share was 42.2% with Seven on 28.9% with 7TWO on 5.6% and 7mate on 4.9%.

That network share is better than Seven's best Sunday combined channel shares this year which came on the first three Sundays in survey 2016 with shares of 39.2%, 38.4% and 37.5%.

Nine was in second place last night thanks largely to Nine News and another 1m+ 60 Minutes audience where Tara Brown was back big time, delivering two of the feature stories.

Seven News Sunday delivered a year high Olympic bulletin audience of 1.62m. In Rio Today followed with 1.33m.
