• Audience up 23% with record rating A-League Grand Final on SBS

SBS’s broadcast of the A-League Grand Final match between Melbourne Victory and Sydney FC yesterday recorded the highest audience on record for an A-League match on SBS, up 23% on last year’s Grand Final.

The match, which played out at Melbourne’s AAMI Park and aired on SBS ONE, recorded an average audience of 442,000 (340,000 Metro and 102,000 Regional combined).

SBS’s audience share for the timeslot was 8.9% Metro and 5.1% Regional.

The entire 2014/15 A-League season airing on SBS reached 5,088,000 viewers, up 23.1% on the 2013/14 season.

The previous highest rating A-League match broadcast was last year’s Grand Final match which averaged 360,000 people (250,000 Metro and 110,000 Regional combined.)

A-League was the number 1 trending program on TV Twitter ratings across SBS and Fox Sports for May 17, 2015. It attracted a unique audience of 179,800 with 2.6 million impressions.

Yesterday's live video stream of the Grand Final on theworldgame.sbs.com.au was also viewed 12,417 times, up 328% on last year

Ken Shipp, SBS Director of Sport said: “Yesterday’s match between Melbourne Victory and Sydney FC was a highly anticipated one, it’s the oldest rivalry in A-League’s history.

“We’re really happy with the audience ratings and it augurs well for future growth of the game.”
