"Very proud": Atomic 212°'s Barry O'Brien is inducted as the newest Mediaweek Icon

Founder and chairman at Atomic 212°'s Barry O’Brien OAM has been inducted as the newest Mediaweek Icon at the Mediaweek 100, held at the Pearl Ballroom at the Crown Sydney on Friday.

O’Brien is one of the most highly respected and passionate individuals in the Australian media and marketing industry.

Experience and credentials aside, he is driven by an innate understanding that relationships are the lifeblood of marketing. He is the man with the bottomless rolodex, whose door is always open to anyone regardless of rank, and who always answers a phone call.

He is a man who understands that the true mark of success is one’s ability to give back, evidenced by his Order of Australia for his contributions in both media and charity.

O’Brien has a love for the industry that spans over 30 years and has held roles as CEO of media agency PHD and chief sales officer for Network Ten. He is now at the helm of Atomic 212°, injecting experience, tenacity and his undeniably quirky sense of humour into agency life.

O'Brien was inducted by Peter Zavecz, managing director, Victoria/Tasmania publishing, News Corporation who spoke highly about his character as a leader, his professionalism and his dedication to the industry.

O’Brien said the journey hasn't been easy and that he appreciated the support from the industry. He added: “I’m super proud of our incredible agency. I stand proudly as chairman of the number one media independent in the market."
