Taboola has put together an infographic revealing 2019's most popular topics across entertainment, news and sport.

Their analysis shows the federal election and Gladys Berejiklian topped the general news category, while in entertainment, Australians loved reading about Love Island and The Bachelor.

Love Island proved incredibly popular with female readers, with 84.2% reading stories about the reality TV series.

Stories on shark attacks were most popular with men (33.1%), along with coverage of the banking royal commission (48.3%) and women's cricket (66.7%).

For sport, Melbourne Cup and the Australian Open were widely popular reads.
