2022-2023 BBL season a big hitter for Foxtel audiences

With two matches still remaining, the season saw an average audience of 250,000 per game

Foxtel Media has announced the ratings for the KFC Big Bash League (BBL) 2022-2023 season, with a spike in streaming driving strong viewership over the summer.

With two matches still remaining, the season saw an average audience of 250,000 per game across Foxtel, Foxtel Now, Foxtel Go and Kayo Sports, representing a 37% YoY rise. Streaming viewership also grew by 55% YoY with more than 235 hours of live coverage made available to subscribers.

Additionally, more than 950,000 fans grabbed their hats and headed to BBL matches in person this season, with a further 50,000 expected at Optus Stadium on Sunday to see the Perth Scorchers take on the winner of Sydney Sixers v Brisbane Heat.

So far, the top three BBL games of the 2022/23 tournament on Foxtel have been (Average Audience):

• Sydney Sixers v Sydney Thunder – 377,000
• Melbourne Renegades v Melbourne Stars – 353,000
• Sydney Sixers v Perth Scorchers – 336,000

Last year the Big Bash League concluded its eleventh season as the Perth Scorchers easily denied the Sydney Sixers a historic three-peat in the BBL Final. The match had a total audience of 834,000 with 469,000 metro viewers, 234,000 regional viewers on Seven, and an average of 131,000 watching on Fox Cricket.
