TV Guide: Australia v NZ in the ICC T20 Cricket World Cup final

Originally scheduled for India in October 2020, the ICC T20 Cricket World Cup has been moved to the UAE, with the final taking place on November 15th (Australian time) 2021. 

Australia have made it through to the final after winning ​​over Pakistan by 5 wickets with 6 balls remaining in the semi final played in Dubai. The game saw two players out for zero - A golden duck for Australia’s Aaron Finch bowled LBW by  Shaheeen Shah Afridi, and Asif Ali caught out by Steve Smith while trying to hit a six.

Australia will face New Zealand in the final after the Black Caps defeated England in their semi final. This will be Australia’s shot at their first T20 World Cup trophy, the last title left for the Australian team. The final will be played at 1am AEDT on the morning of Monday 15th.

There are 16 teams that have competed in the 2021 T20 World Cup: India, Pakistan, Australia, England, South Africa, New Zealand, West Indies, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Netherlands, Papua New Guinea, Ireland, Namibia, Scotland, and Oman.

By the Numbers: Australia's World Cup dominance

Of 19 tournaments across ODI and T20 formats, Australia’s men’s team have reached the final nine times – the most by any team and three more than the next best England and Sri Lanka (six each). That means if there is a World Cup on, there is a 47.36 per cent chance that Australia will make it to the final.

Australia have twice reached the T20 World Cup Final (2021 and 2010) and made seven appearances in the Cricket World Cup Final (1975, 1987, 1996, 1999, 2003, 2007 and 2015).

The commentary team for the ICC World T20 2021 includes former cricketers Ian Bishop, Sunil Gavaskar, Nasser Hussain and Michael Atherton, Shane Watson, Dale Steyn, Niall O’Brien, and Preston Mommsen.

This year, Fox Sports has the rights to air the T20 World Cup 2021. Fans can watch every match live and on-demand through Kayo Sports. 

There is no free-to-air broadcast this year. The Nine Network has a long-standing arrangement with Foxtel to show Australia’s matches at World Cup events. This event was originally scheduled as a Champions Trophy tournament – which is outside Nine’s deal with Foxtel – then changed to a T20 World Cup in 2018. Despite the change, it remains outside Nine’s arrangement, hence no broadcast.
